Election Day, 11/3/2026
“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves,
one another, this country, and this world.”
—Sharon Salzberg
The first Tuesday in November is almost upon us. As Sharon Salzberg reminds us: it is time for all citizens to act. I hope that most of you have either voted early, either by mail or drop box, or even in person at your designated polling place. I’m not even going to try to convince you who to vote for – that is totally your business. I just want you to vote.
So much for November 3rd. I would now like to draw your attention to November 4th. On the day after the election, I will be at the COPPER FIDDLE in Lake Zurich. Unlike most Wednesdays for the past nine or so years, my good friend and compadre Rich Nelson will not be there to skillfully wield his Bass, add his voice, and engage in witty banter with me as we attempt to entertain each other and anyone who has stopped in for a drink and some musical diversion. I WILL BE ALONE. Now being in a room with my guitar and a surfeit of whiskey is generally on my wish list, but it would be really great to have someone else there to chat with, celebrate – or commiserate – after what has truly been “the times to try men’s souls”.
If you can, and if you wish, please come down to the Fiddle and we’ll have a drink. If you are musically inclined, bring an instrument and we’ll have a song or three to celebrate the end of Daylight Savings Time, or whatever. The lovely and talented Chloe will be bartending and will be glad to dial up the refreshments. And as I have promised for years, a Good Time will be had by All! We start around 7:15-ish and go until 9:30. If you can’t make it, don’t worry, I’ll be fine. It’s not my first solo rodeo. But if you do come, it’ll be wonderful to share your company!
